Trainee Corner: Niall’s highlights

I am in my fourth and final seat of my training contract in the personal injury team. This is actually my second time with this team as it was also my first seat on my training contract. Before I joined GA, I always considered that corporate and commercial work was where I would finish so this has been a pleasant surprise.
I also had seats in the business disputes and commercial property teams and I found the work I was doing challenging (in a good way). I could see how the work helped to support the development of a business or to defend the interest of commercial clients. However, for me, I really enjoyed the blend of client interaction and litigation in the personal injury team. I feel like my efforts will make a real difference to the lives of our clients.
Reflecting on my overall training experience at GA, I can confidently say it has been excellent. The firm has structured a well-rounded training contract, offering a diverse range of seats and the chance to tackle challenging assignments. Some personal highlights include preparing a defence in the disputes team and actively participating in trials within the personal injury team.
The firm’s partners have proven to be approachable, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in my growth. They have supported me with various external endeavours such as becoming a part of the Plymouth Junior Lawyers Division committee. I have also participated in CSR days to support the firm’s pledge to sustainability and I was given praise for introducing the firm to taking payments digitally for fundraising efforts.
One of the standout aspects of the firm is the sense of camaraderie among trainee solicitors. This shared path creates an invaluable support network from day one, fostering a motivating environment.
I would highly recommend training with GA for their supportive, friendly approach, coupled with the variety of work. I am looking forward to qualifying into the personal injury team this September and continuing my work at GA.
