Trendy New Venue Opens With Support from GA Solicitors

Regional law firm, GA Solicitors has just advised on a new lease of an exclusive and modern cocktail bar located in the centre of Plymouth.
Located in Old Town Street, Bar Koda has replaced Hush Café at the top of Plymouth’s city centre. The new bar has an edgy feel with graffiti décor, slick new lighting and a freshly installed bar area.
The venue opened in November 2023 and is led by Plymouth entrepreneur and DJ, Warren Jones. Owner of the Egg Drop in Plymstock, Mr Jones is no stranger to adventure and trying his hand at something new, having opened his catering business in the midst of the COVID pandemic.
The lease has been taken over a five-year term and more than £25,000 has been invested to transform the café into a modern bar which will appeal to professionals, locals and students. The venue’s signage promotes ‘eat, drink, dance’ and it has been granted a license to open from 8am to midnight Monday through to Thursday, with extended opening hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
The new venue is located at 1 Old Town Street and its opening will provide employment opportunities for local people. Two bar staff have already been employed, with a further two expected to be recruited as footfall increases.
Jacob Cunningham, a chartered legal executive at GA Solicitors who advised on the lease, said: “This is a fantastic venue in a great location. It is right in the city centre, close to both The Barcode and Drake Circus. Since the refurbishment there is a fun but chilled vibe, making it a great place to visit for a post-work cocktail or beer. I wish Warren the best of luck with his new venture and look forward to working with him again in the future.”
Warren Jones, the new owner of Bar Koda, added: “I am so excited to be moving forward with this new venture. Currently Bar Koda is only open in the evenings, but we are fully licensed for daytime opening which I hope to introduce as we build our client base. With live music, a strong vibe and a varied drinks menu, I have no doubt that visitor numbers will increase as word spreads.
“At Bar Koda, I wanted to create something a little different than what is currently on offer. The graffiti murals create an edgy ambience that will appeal to professionals in the area, as well as those looking to have a cocktail or two before visiting The Barcode. With our late opening, they can also return to us later!”
