GA named runner up in Plymouth Herald Business Awards
GA Solicitors is delighted to have been named as runner up in the Corporate Social Responsibility category of the annual Plymouth Herald Business Awards which took place last night.
Having been located in Plymouth for more than 200 years, there is no doubting that GA genuinely cares about the city in which it works, and the community which resides within it.
The firm goes above and beyond, spreading its reach to many charities, organisations and trusts throughout the city. It strives to not only help one charity through fundraising but, perhaps more importantly, it actively encourages all employees to take part in various activities and community engagement programmes – each having a positive impact on the city as a whole.
Across the firm many organisations are supported by the GA team. Just some of these are outlined below:
- Gerrick Rose Animal Trust
- Dartmoor Partnership
- Devon Air Ambulance Trust
- The St Vincent de Paul Society
- St Luke’s Hospice
- The Plymouth Drake Foundation
- Plymouth Age UK
- Tavistock Dementia Alliance
- Tavistock Rotary Club
- Fredericks Foundation
- Plymouth Law Society
- HeartSWell South West
- Plymouth Junior Chamber
- The Woolwell Centre
- The Freedom Programme and the Plymouth Domestic Abuse Service (PDAS)
As well as the support shown above, each year members of the Gill Akaster team nominate a charity which they will support for the next 12 months. Over this period a wide variety of events are organised to raise funds. These include dress down days, bake sales, quizzes, raffles and much more. These events are organised by the staff and evoke a strong feeling of community spirit.
As well as holding events, the firm donates £1 to charity for every client feedback form it receives and each Christmas makes a sizeable donation instead of purchasing and posting Christmas cards to its network of clients and referrers.
“Devon Air Ambulance Trust has undertaken in excess of 20,000 missions and we rely on the help and support of the local community to ensure we can continue this ever important work. Gill Akaster, and in particular Matthew Sheather, has dedicated time and commitment into supporting us and we whole heartedly back Gill Akaster’s nomination in The Herald’s Corporate Social Responsibility Award.”
Helena Holt, chief executive of Devon Air Ambulance Trust
“St Luke’s Hospice relies on support from the community it serves, both in terms of direct financial contributions and through volunteers that help at every level of the organisation. Gill Akaster LLP has been a long standing supporter of the Hospice and we endorse their nomination for this award.”
Sally Taylor, chief executive of St Luke’s Hospice
“Ellie’s Haven was extremely grateful at being chosen by Gill Akaster LLP Solicitors as its charity of the year in 2013-2014. To be associated with such a prestigious company only helped profile our charity, and raise the support we needed to achieve our aims. Throughout our partnership we were always made to feel very welcome and the passion and commitment that the employees showed us, will remain in our memory for many years.”
Nigel Libbie, founder of Ellie’s Haven
