GOD TV Puts Faith in Plymouth Law Firm
Plymouth-based law firm, GA Solicitors, today (18 December) announced the completion of a significant deal for its client, The Angel Foundation (the UK charitable arm of GOD TV) allowing the global faith-based broadcaster to purchase a 25-year lease of the former Millennium Complex in Plymouth’s Union Street.
The building was erected in 1931 as The Gaumont Cinema but has been left vacant for the past nine years. GOD TV is now transforming the structure into a 1,400-seater venue that will be used as a centre for worship and a destination for large-scale events that will be broadcast to 254 million homes worldwide.
The deal officially completed today, securing GOD TV’s lease of the site until 2038. The site is expected to be in use from October 2014 and will see the creation of approximately 100 jobs, as well as attracting as many as 10,000 visitors each year to the city.
Fergus Scarfe, UK regional director of GOD TV, commented: “Plymouth is undergoing extensive regeneration and we are delighted to play a part in its transformation. Not only is the building historically significant, it is perfectly situated for us to serve the community in Plymouth and our audiences further afield.”
Tony Dupreez, the commercial property solicitor acting for GOD TV, added: “After nine years of being left to decay, it is brilliant to see a building that has such a long heritage in our city being put to good use. We are pleased to support GOD TV and recognise its important role in Plymouth, especially as it is anticipated to bring so many people to the city. “
Gill Akaster has a sizeable commercial property team and currently employs 65 members of staff across seven specialist departments: commercial; residential conveyancing; employment; dispute resolution; personal injury; family and wills, trusts and probate.
GOD TV was founded by Rory & Wendy Alec, in 1995, as Europe’s first daily Christian television network. It now broadcasts globally from Jerusalem and the new Plymouth facility will increase its originally produced UK programming substantially.
