Plymouth Cancer Charity Receives Legal Aid
Local charity POOCH (Plymouth Oncology Outpatients and Chemotherapy), has been presented a cheque to the sum of £2250 by the staff of Plymouth law firm, GA Solicitors.
POOCH was named as the firm’s charity of the year in 2014 and has benefitted from the 70-strong team’s fundraising efforts for the last 12 months. A range of activities were undertaken including dress down days, half marathons, quizzes, bake sales, raffles and much more.
The aim of POOCH is to fundraise on behalf of Derriford Hospital’s cancer outpatient unit to allow them to purchase equipment or refurbish where required. As a small charity the founders have direct liaison with the nursing staff so are able to have some input and control over the way the funds are spent.
It is anticipated that the £2250 raised by the GA team will be put towards the purchasing of equipment to assist the elderly when receiving cancer treatment.
Stephen Ramsden, managing partner of GA Solicitors commented: “Every penny of the money raised has been donated or earned by the team at GA after considerable effort and dedication. They have really worked hard to raise this fantastic sum.
“We have a strong ethos in the firm in regards to our corporate social responsibility and always strive to support the community in which we work. We have been delighted to support a charity as commendable as POOCH.”
David Hocking, co-founder of POOCH, added: “As a small charity we rely heavily on donations from individuals and organisations. This is a substantial sum for us and we can really make a difference to the unit and the service it provides to its patients.
“I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the GA team for getting behind POOCH in such an enthusiastic manner and for caring enough to work so hard and raise this money. Having also been lucky enough to attend one of the bake sales I can also definitely commend their baking skills! ”
GA Solicitors has selected Tavistock Memory Cafe, a support network for those living with dementia and their carers, to be its charity of the year for the next 12 months.
With more than 200 years of heritage, GA Solicitors is a leading Plymouth law firm with 70 members of staff offering guidance across seven specialist departments: business; family; employment; dispute resolution; wills, trusts & probate; conveyancing and personal injury.
