Retirement for Partner after 40 Years
After nearly four decades, Hugh Michelmore, senior partner of GA Solicitors and one of the city’s most recognised and respected businessmen, has announced his retirement.
Hugh joined GA in 1977 when it was known as Gill Akaster, Leest and Russell and had just 14 employees. Rising through the ranks of the commercial team, he became senior partner in 2002 and has helped to develop and grow the business, establishing it as one of the region’s most prominent law firms with 78 members of staff.
Recognised as a leader in the field of company and commercial law, Hugh is ranked in Chambers & Partners UK and has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London. Highly involved in the local business community, Hugh will continue his role as chairman of both Newton Abbot Racecourse and Peninsula Finance PLC, as well as director of Radio Plymouth.
Talking of his retirement Hugh commented: “I have very much enjoyed my forty years at GA and have been privileged to work with some of the finest lawyers in the region. To have played such a key part in the history of GA, and to see it grow into the successful firm it is today, makes me feel very proud. I count myself lucky to have been able to help hundreds of clients over the years, many of whom have become my close friends.”
Managing partner Stephen Ramsden added: “During his long service Hugh has steered GA through many changes and guided the firm through the ups and downs of an ever-evolving marketplace. We all owe him a great debt of gratitude. He will be leaving with effect from 31st December 2016 but will continue to be a close friend and advocate of the firm. He will remain active in the local business community and is looking forward to retaining strong links with us and our clients. We wish him a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.”
With more than 200 years of heritage, GA Solicitors is a leading Plymouth law firm with 78 members of staff offering guidance across seven specialist departments: business; family; employment; dispute resolution; wills, trusts & probate; conveyancing and personal injury.
