From the moment I started my training seat in family I knew it was the area I wished to practice in the following qualification. I qualified in 2010 and have remained working in the area of family law throughout that time. In 2012 it became clear to me that I enjoyed public law childcare work in particular and I was, therefore, keen to progress my skills in that area. I was thrilled to join GA Solicitors in 2012 where I could undertake specifically this type of work. I have been a member of the Law Society Children Accreditation (Children Panel) since 2015 which allows me to act both for parents and children, often through their Children’s Guardian. I have been the head of the Childcare Department at GA since 2018 and in 2022, I was made Partner.
I consider myself to be someone who is friendly and approachable and I think this assists in supporting clients through what is often a very emotional and lengthy process. I also consider that I am very loyal to my clients and will do all I can to defend their position to the best of my ability. I am an experienced advocate and love undertaking my own court hearings where possible. Having been involved in this area of work for more than10 years, I have experience representing parents and children in complex matters, including (but not limited to) cases concerning non-accidental injury, alleged sexual abuse and fabricated illness. I also have experience of acting in proceedings in relation to deprivation of liberty and also have assisted many clients with significant mental health or learning difficulties. I particularly enjoy assisting clients with learning disabilities or difficulties, often working closely with the members of the Plymouth Parent Advocacy Project who provide excellent advocacy support.
Away from work I love spending time outdoors and am keen to participate in any kind of sport, but particularly football. I have played for what was my local village football team when I grew up for over 20 years and am also secretary of the football club. I am a massive music fan and will try and attend as many gigs as I physically can, regardless of how far it might involve me driving.
