Matthew Sheather
Partner and head of team
I am a partner and head of the personal injury and medical negligence team. I joined GA in 2006 from a large Bristol law firm and have clocked up more than two decades of legal experience. I qualified as a solicitor in 2001, having read Law at the University of Liverpool, followed by completion of the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester.
I specialise in handling high-value and catastrophic injury claims and have extensive niche experience in motorcycle and fatal accident claims. I strive to succeed and have taken on cases where other solicitors have failed, resulting in successful outcomes, and I have an interest in handling chronic pain cases, and often, where the client has been medically retired from the armed forces or emergency services or other employment.
I also have a wealth of experience as a clinical negligence solicitor and handle all types of high-value and complex medical negligence cases, including cases of misdiagnosis, negligent orthopaedic surgery, missed fractures and negligent care and treatment.
I represent victims injured in all types of accidents, including road traffic accidents, accidents at work, public liability, ministry of defence and spinal and head injury cases. I’m an advocate for rehabilitation and work tirelessly to assist those with life-changing injuries.
I am a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. I am listed in Chambers & Partners as a leader in my field and am a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500.
I have previously acted as a governor of a local primary school and a trustee of Devon Air Ambulance.
When away from work, I enjoy live music and the theatre, as well as playing football and golf. I am a passionate Liverpool FC fan. I also spend time with the family and our dog walking and cycling on the moors and coast.
I am described in Chambers & Partners as being “supportive of clients and committed throughout the litigation process.”
