Matthew Ellis
Solicitor
I joined GA’s dispute resolution team in July 2020. Having qualified as a solicitor in October 2010, I have a strong litigation background with experience in resolving a range of commercial and civil disputes, with a particular focus on contentious wills, trusts and probate disputes.
I have conducted cases in the high court and up to the court of appeal and have represented many clients at mediations. My specialist areas include:
- Advising trustees on claims made against them by beneficiaries for alleged breach of trust or maladministration
- Challenging the validity of wills
- Making and defending claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
- Applying to remove personal representatives both before and after a grant of probate
- Advising beneficiaries on potential claims against trustees
- Assisting personal representatives and trustees to carry out their duties and, if need be, to make an application to the High Court for guidance
- Advising co-owners of properties following a relationship breakdown
I studied Law and French at Cardiff University between 2001 and 2005, which included a year’s study at the Université de Nantes, France. I completed the legal practice course at the University of Plymouth in my hometown.
I am an affiliate member of STEP, having completed training in trusts and estates (England and Wales), Financial Services, Trusts and Estate Planning, and Contentious Estates.
